What is Enviro-Gold? Pawhaoa was graded Enviro Gold by Qualmark in May 2013. We intend to continue with this high standard in years to come. Enviro-Gold is evidence that Pawhaoa has achieved the pinnacle of responsible tourism practice. At the time of the award being granted it was said: "Pawhaoa Bay Lodge has demonstrated their commitment to the highest level in environmental practices, to achieve their Enviro-Gold. The achievement is testament to how Pawhaoa Bay Lodge has fully integrated environmental sustainability into a quality tourism product." Environmental Mission Statement. Pawhaoa Bay Lodge acknowledges that we are placed in a blessed, unique and natural environment of great beauty and ecological and cultural value. We are committed to conservation, sustainable use and enhancement of our immediate, local and global environment for the present and the future. By: Minimising our footprint through building design, colour, solar water heating, and sophisticated effluent disposal and tree planting. Non use of toxic sprays, and using biodegradable and eco friendly cleaning and bathroom products. Composting all food scraps and other degradable matter. Comprehensive recycling of paper, cardboard, plastics, metals wherever possible. Advise , educate and discuss our policies and methods with guests, staff and others. Participate in and support Community Group and Environmental Projects in our area. To actively pursue and monitor our progress in reducing energy use, water and waste production To actively pursue our policy for an environmentally friendly and sustainable Accommodation Business.
